What are headshots?
Headshots are basically promotional pictures of yourself. It's nice
to have multiple "looks" so that you can switch around which
picture you use, depending on the type of audition and play.
For example, a more dramatic picture is good for a Shakespeare
audition. A more mature picture for an older role. However, despite
these variances, it is also necessary that the picture actually look
like yourself.
Headshots have multiple purposes. One is to portray what you *can*
look like. Two is to portray what you "currently" look like so that the
director or talent scout can remember you.
When you are one of 50 or more females/males trying out for one role, it is
important that the directors are able to associate your audition with
what you look like. It helps them remember who you are.
What does it mean to get your headshots done?
A good session is one with a professional photographer who will
assist in determining the type of wardrobe to wear. Usually, the photographer will
take 24-48 photos. Sessions can run anywhere from 1.5 hours to 3
hours or more. After 1-3 weeks, depending on your photographer,
your images will be ready.
Questions to ask the photographer?
How many photographs will be taking?
How many images will you receive?
Will you be doing black & white, or color?
What control will I have over the images after the shoot?
What control will the photographer have over the images after the
shoot?
Whether you get to select the prints you receive following the shoot?
